Board Meeting – October 6, 2009

Country Walk Board Meeting on October 6, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm in the Clubhouse by President Mickey Lauria. All five Board members were in attendance. These include Mickey Lauria, Jay Jones, Murali Sitaraman, Scott Templeton, and Warren Adams.  (Scott left at 8 pm.)

Accomplishments during the past month.

  • The pool was successfully closed on 9/28/09 after a summer of enjoyment.  Thanks are due to Denise Burton and Steve Edwards for their efforts towards maintaining a safe and clean amenity.

Treasurer’s Report

  • An updated report on 2009 expenditures was presented.
  • Pool maintenance is finished with the exception of a final payment to Matheson Pools for about $1500. Expenses are approximately $2000 over budget.

Old Business

  • Karl Pokorny will be paid $770 instead of the $880 agreed-upon price for removing the large tree in the entry circle since the stump was not removed. Jay presented pros and cons for removing the stump. The Board decided to not grind, but to instead plant azaleas.
  • One bid has been received for the nature trail. The Board will seek out a second bid.
  • A lengthy discussion of Kudzu treatment along Berkeley Drive took place. Options ranged from chemical treatment to removal of all growth. The option of bulldozing and planting decorative trees along Berkeley Drive would greatly improve the subdivision entranceway, but would likely be expensive. Further discussions will take place.
  • Additional bidders will be sought for Clubhouse maintenance and repair.
  • Janet Klodowski has generously served as the Chair of the Social Committee since its inception. She has agreed to continue updating the subdivision directory but will step down as Chair. Volunteers were solicited via Mickey’s e-mail message to the subdivision, but no interest was shown. Consequently, there will be no children’s Halloween party. Also, no future holiday socials are under consideration. Mickey’s upcoming e-mail will notify the subdivision that there will be no Halloween party.
  • Architectural concerns have been raised relative to new constructions. Warren will contact the Chair of the ACC, Phil Schmidt, to make sure that he is aware of these concerns, and to determine whether they have been approved.
  • A number of cats have been found dead on Country Walk property. Stray dogs and birds and/or birds of prey are suspected. Murali will contact Pickens County animal control.
  • Reports of cars running through the stop sign at the intersection of Knollwood Drive and Country Walk Lane have been received. City police will be called for additional patrols.
  • Maintenance of the tennis courts remains a priority. The Board is awaiting information from the residents who volunteered to obtain quotes.

New Business

  • Policies for Clubhouse rental were discussed. The following policy was established, and will be placed in the Board’s list of policies. “Due to liability issues and the subdivision’s nonprofit status, the Clubhouse will be rented exclusively to residents, and never for commercial purposes.”
  • The City of Clemson is celebrating Halloween on Thursday, 10/29, since Clemson University homecoming is on Friday and Saturday. The Board discussed different options for Halloween, including celebrating on 10/29, 10/31, or both. By a vote of 3 to 1, the Board voted to suggest no official day of celebration. Trick-or-treaters may arrive on 10/29 or 10/31, and each household can participate as desired. No police officers will be hired for traffic control, although two parking signs will be erected for each of the two nights. Mickey will send a subdivision e-mail to this effect.
  • Complaints have arisen relative to land not being maintained. These complaints include both vacant and developed lots. The Board is considering action through personal requests and formal letters.
  • There is reportedly a dead tree on common ground near 102 Magnolia Way. The Board will investigate.
  • Due to the expense and perceived usage, the Board agreed that the pool should be closed every year on September 15.

The next Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th, at 7 pm in the Clubhouse.

The meeting concluded at 9:11 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Warren P. Adams

Secretary, Country Walk Board
